What kind of seeds are you planting?
I’ve found an inspiring article in the email-newsletter of www.ini.tv:
Albert Einstein once said, “The future is an unknown, but a somewhat predictable unknown. To look to the future we must first look back upon the past. That is where the seeds of the future were planted.”
This insight reveals just how much of our lives are a byproduct of the “seeds” that we have sown in the past.
After the flood, God promised Noah that “seedtime and harvest” would not cease as long as the earth existed (Genesis 8:22). This principle of seeds applies to everything in our lives. What we do with our time. How we invest the talents and resources God has given us. The Apostle Paul expressed this principle by saying that we will reap whatever we sow (Galatians 6:7).
We can look back and realize how we have experienced this principle in our lives. Through the impact of our parents and grandparents. Aunts and uncles. Siblings and friends. Teachers, pastors and neighbours. Their “seeds” are now our legacy, and have helped to shape our lives.
In the verse above, David described a time when the previous generation trusted in God, and were delivered. How many people can make that declaration today? Instead, most have placed their trust in jobs or bank accounts, governments or politicians, themselves or their abilities, or a host of other entities. Yet all of these man-made forces ultimately will fail.
What kind of seeds are YOU planting? You can be sure that the seeds you plant will grow. You will see the fruit in your own life, in the world around you and the lives of future generations. Make sure that you are sowing God’s Word…generously. And model it. Live in such a way that others can see that you depend on Him, and that He delivers you. In so doing, you will plant seeds that impact future generations.
