About me
Hi, I am Thorsten Grahn from Germany. Please excuse my German English - it is the best I could acquire. I am a committed and passionate servant leader, however, often I’ m much better still in the theory than in the practice of servant leadership. I am convinced that the best time of servant leadership has yet to come, because servant leadership is the most effective leadership style for developing and utilizing the most important asset in any organization, its people.
With akomuna.net I want to serve servant leaders. The posts shall encourage and inspire servant leaders in their daily leadership challenges.
My personal leadership background. MA in Organizational Leadership. MSc and PhD in Mathematics, major Statistics, minor Economics. I have lived in the Philippines for four years, working in Manila as a social ministry coordinator. Presently I am working as a sandwich-leader in a German media organization. I have people I report to and people who report to me, and I work regularly with volunteers from more than 20 nations to produce radio-, telephone-, and TV-programs in 24 languages. Part of my job is to work with internationals and to coordinate projects in Europe, Africa, South America, and Asia.
I understand that leadership consists of theory and practice and an ongoing growth process, in which theory nurtures practice and practice nurtures theory and theory nurtures practice and… . I think that leadership works best when I am continuously involved in the three processes of leading others, leading myself, and letting others lead me.
I am thankful that I personally do have a leader to follow, who has the power and the authority to say “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last.” (The Bible, Revelation 1:17). This is the leader who serves me best and who enables me to serve others like he serves me. With power, love and passion to help people grow and serve other people themselves. I think that there is no better example of a servant leader than Jesus Christ. Jesus, who gave his life for his followers and who taught his leadership team in word and deed, that serving others is the highest form of leadership.
I wish you daily the courage to serve, and the joy, which comes from watching the growth of people, who you lead. Joyful serving and effective people growth development!
